Remarks: This comprehensive list of convicts transported to Tasmania and those who were convicted in the colony was created by indexing all original convict records held in the Archives Office of Tasmania from the beginning of transportation in 1804 until 1853 when transportation officially ceased. The latest entry in the database for the locally convicted convicts is 1893. The basis of the index is the entries made by the Convict Department in what is known as the Comprehensive Index to Convicts (CON 22). The index contains name, alias, ship name, arrival date, departure date and port of embarkation. The convicts' names, ships, date of arrival and remarks are searchable. This index refers to records located at the Archives Office of Tasmania from whom applications for copies of records must be made. Fees apply.
